Stefano Proietti – Consultant of the Month

We regularly recognize a K2 consultant who has received outstanding client feedback on their recent project.

This month the K2 Consultant of the Month is Stefano Proietti, a Technical Manager in the SAP HCM Payroll Area. Read his interview below:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My experience in IT began back in 1986 as a COBOL programmer in a Mainframe environment for one of the companies in the IBM world based in Rome, Italy.

In the following years, I took part in numerous projects, covering roles of increasing responsibility. I finally decided to move into consultancy in the Italian payroll sector.

In 2001, I took the opportunity to enter the SAP world, specialising in the HCM Payroll module. I had the good fortune to work for major companies in the sector, managing to increase my experience both by participating in large-scale projects and by dedicating myself to Maintenance and Client Management activities.

In 2006, with three other partners, I founded PV Consulting Srl, a company specialising in SAP HCM consulting. As head of the Payroll Area, I was personally involved in the implementation of the projects in which we were involved, as well as in the AMS activities entrusted to us.

2. Tell us a little about your most recent K2 project.

My collaboration with K2 began in May 2019, when I was appointed to take care of AMS services in the SAP HCM Payroll environment for the Italian staff of the pharmaceutical multinational SANOFI. Despite the difficulties posed by the Italian regulations, which were subject to numerous evolutions, even of considerable complexity (especially during the period affected by COVID-19), I managed to comply with all the requests received from the customer and meet the legal deadlines. I also utilised my experience in the IT field, personally analysing and sometimes implementing the customisations requested by the customer.

This was also possible thanks to the helpfulness and competence of the SANOFI staff, with whom I managed to establish an excellent relationship of trust and mutual respect.

3. What do you enjoy most about your job?

Payroll consulting is an ongoing challenge. You must always be up-to-date in both the regulations and the evolution of the SAP platform.

Also, you must be extremely careful to avoid making mistakes and you must meet numerous deadlines. In my opinion, this is what makes this profession one of the best jobs possible.

4. Which technical development do you think will have the biggest impact on your field or the wider world of IT over the next couple of years?

I’m sure the move from the traditional On-Premise solution to the Cloud platform of the SAP SuccessFactors suite will mean that SAP HCM consulting companies will have to evolve. That will be very significant.

5. What advice would you give to someone who is starting out as a freelance IT consultant?

It’s important to try to figure out which platforms or technologies will grow the most. That will mean you can specialise in good time so that you’re always able to offer valuable expertise as a consultant.
