To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2019, we are showcasing some of K2’s inspirational female leaders. This series of blogs will introduce you to some of the women that help make K2 the successful company that it is.
In this blog, we meet Fernanda Pellegrini, Global Director- Talent Acquisition:
1. What is your professional background?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Masters in HR Management. I have been working in corporate recruitment since the very beginning of my career, back in 2009. I really don’t know what I would be doing if I were not a recruiter!
2. What challenges have you encountered during your career and how did you tackle them?
Every day offers a challenge of a different nature and they don’t stop coming. There is no such thing as overcoming a challenge and being done with it. I believe in moving purposefully in the direction of my dreams and whatever challenge is on the way is just part of that path. You either walk around it or climb it. There are no shortcuts nor is there a magic formula.
3. What achievement are you most proud of in your career to date?
My greatest achievement is making my family proud and sleeping in peace at night knowing that I am doing something that I believe in.
4. Who is your greatest inspiration or role model?
My two grandfathers. Everything I know about work ethics, commitment and accountability, I learned from them. They are the hardest working individuals I ever met and with them I learned that work gives purpose and meaning to our life. We not only contribute to society, but we become part of it through our work. Not only that, I learned that whatever we get out of it, is a direct result of whatever effort we put in. It has never failed me.
5. What do you think has made you the leader you are today?
The two things always competing for my attention are my dreams and reality.
It’s fun to be a dreamer, but being grounded in reality certainly allowed me to make difficult decisions and celebrate victories in equal measure. Learning to be pragmatic about my dreams and coming up with plans on how to put them to work is really how dreams and visions came to be true.
6. What are the three main traits that make a leader successful in your opinion?
Respect, Focus, Passion
7. What do you do to ensure a good work/life balance? How do you unwind?
If I’m going to be honest, I mostly try to find a balance, but I don’t always ensure it happens. I do let work creep into my personal time, but I really don’t feel guilty about it. Given that work taps into a very sociable part of my personality, my downtime is mostly spent with activities to quieten the mind: yoga, meditation, reading, baking, sleeping. I am quite good at ignoring my phone during the weekend and I don’t own a watch. Losing track of time is good!
8. What is the best (or most valuable) piece of advice you have been given?
Never let anything disturb your inner peace!
Ottilie Wood, Marketing Executive based at K2 Partnering Solutions HQ in London.
