At K2 we dedicate one day each year to celebrate and examine our company culture. Each office stops work and explores different themes ranging from K2’s values to sustainability.
In 2022 though, we wanted to take time to look more deeply into how we support our own people, as well as global communities and the planet. Throughout May, we focused on three key themes:
- Health and Wellness
- Our People and Communities
- Career Development
We spent one week exploring each individual theme. People from all departments and regions hosted webinars for their peers about topics close to their hearts. We also heard from external speakers who held insightful workshops and gave some fantastic advice, ranging from how to manage work stress to diversity in the workplace.
Here is an overview of the first-ever K2 Culture Month:
Health and Wellness
The first theme of Culture Month was Health and Wellness. The week’s topics ranged from how to better achieve work/life balance to recognizing stress in others. One example was a talk from one of our K2 team members who told us about how she balances her leadership position with being a professional swimmer in her free time.
In line with helping to improve both our people’s physical and mental health, we began a company-wide Fitness Challenge. With over 100 entrants, the goal was to achieve the highest step count.
In total, we clocked up 9,296,412 steps. There were five winners for each of K2’s regions (USA, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Brazil) and they have each won an Apple Watch SE!
Support is key to ensuring that our people’s health and wellness are upheld. We encourage them to support one another and offer them any guidance they may need to make positive changes in both their professional and personal lives.
Our People and Communities
It’s our responsibility to care for not only the health of our people but that of the planet and its communities. Sustainability is a key commitment for K2, which is why we selected Our People and Communities as our second theme of Culture Month.
Internal and external speakers examined what we can all do to make a more sustainable and inclusive world. One example was a talk from a Bring Women Back to Work Program participant. K2 University partners with Salesforce to upskill women in Switzerland who wish to return to work. Together we are working to tackle the under-representation of women in the Swiss workplace.
Additionally, K2 Japan took a practical step to helping their local community. Over 45 people from our Tokyo office joined in with litter-picking throughout the city, cleaning up the park, river, beach and streets.
We’re committed as an organization to contributing to the communities of the world, our own people and the health of the planet. In 2022 and beyond we shall continue our efforts and develop new ways in which we can make a difference.
The final theme of Culture Month focused on Career Development. We want each of our people at K2 to have the support and guidance they need to build the career they want and reach their full potential.
Throughout the third week, our HR teams outlined our Career Navigation for Sales and Shared Services teams. These offer a comprehensive guide to how each person at K2 can climb the career ladder.
We also heard from a K2 team member who has recently taken part in the Foreign Exchange Program (FXP). This is a K2 initiative that allows people to transfer to a new office anywhere in the world and immerse themselves in a new culture. Now that the program is back since being halted due to COVID, Culture Month was a great opportunity to let everyone know that they can now take the plunge and start a new chapter in their lives again!
Culture Month is a key opportunity in the year for us to concentrate on vital collaboration and communication. It’s important that we take the time to listen to our team members from all around the world, in every area of our business. Giving each person a voice helps us to further improve our company culture for everyone. We can also motivate and support one another to help create a better world for both our local and global communities.
