We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead / Technical Program Lead to support a large-scale Payments Modernization initiative.

This role combines strong technical leadership with technical program management responsibilities. The successful candidate will lead technical planning, coordinate cross-functional engineering teams, drive execution across multiple workstreams, and provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the implementation lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has a strong software engineering background and has evolved into leading complex enterprise technology programs involving APIs, payment platforms, and cloud-native applications.

During the current phase of the program, the role is expected to be approximately 60% technical program management and 40% technical leadership, with greater emphasis on technical delivery as the implementation progresses.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical planning and execution for a large-scale Payments Modernization program.
• Develop and maintain the technical implementation roadmap and delivery plan.
• Coordinate delivery across software engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, and product teams.
• Drive technical workstreams while ensuring milestones, dependencies, and risks are actively managed.
• Translate business and functional requirements into technical solutions and execution plans.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams throughout design, development, testing, and implementation.
• Review technical designs, API specifications, integration patterns, and solution approaches.
• Facilitate technical planning sessions, sprint planning, design reviews, and cross-functional coordination meetings.
• Proactively identify and remove delivery roadblocks while driving accountability across multiple teams.
• Partner closely with Business Analysts, Technical Project Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
• Communicate project status, risks, and technical decisions to both technical and business audiences.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, technical leadership, or enterprise technology delivery.
• Strong hands-on software engineering background before transitioning into Technical Lead or Technical Program Management responsibilities.
• Experience leading complex enterprise software delivery across multiple engineering teams.
• Demonstrated experience creating technical roadmaps, coordinating technical delivery, and driving execution with minimal supervision.
• Strong experience within enterprise payments environments, including one or more of:
  • ACH, Fedwire / Wire Payments, Real-Time Payments (RTP), Payment APIs, Payment processing platforms

Strong experience with:

• Java
• REST APIs / Microservices
• MuleSoft or enterprise integration platforms
• AWS
• Distributed enterprise applications
• Experience reviewing technical designs, APIs, and integration strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence engineering teams and drive delivery without relying on formal authority.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced Agile environments with evolving priorities.

• Payments Modernization or Digital Banking transformation experience.
