Context

The client is looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer to work on the development of an application embedded with AI capabilities.

The successful candidate will have solid software engineering experience and, importantly, previous experience developing applications deployed on Microsoft Azure Cloud.

The role will focus on backend development and will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and development through testing, deployment and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain robust, scalable and high-performance backend applications using cloud components.
• Develop software solutions designed to be deployed and operated on Microsoft Azure.
• Write clean, efficient and well-documented code following software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers and other Engineers to define, design and deliver new features.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge across the engineering team.
• Debug and resolve technical issues, ensuring application performance, reliability and security.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decisions.
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation and process improvement.
• Continuously improve development practices, tools and engineering standards.
• Contribute to the integration of AI capabilities within the application.

Required Experience & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven experience developing software applications deployed on Microsoft Azure Cloud.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language such as .NET/C#, Java, Node.js or Python.
• Strong understanding of authentication and authorization, including Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth2 and OIDC.
• Good understanding of secure application design.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms and software design principles.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra or Cosmos DB.
• Experience with cloud-based and microservices architectures.
• Experience with version control systems such as GitHub or GitLab.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions/workflows.
• Experience working with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

AI-Assisted Development

• Proficiency with Agentic IDEs.
• Experience working with “Agent in the Loop” development workflows.
• Previous exposure to AI-enabled application development is highly relevant to the project.
