K2 Consultant of the Month: “Why SAP still excites me, even after 27 years”

Even after 27 years of experience in the SAP ecosystem, senior consultant Gerardo Martinez says that working in SAP still provides him with new opportunities to learn and acquire new skills.

Specializing in the SAP Project System, Investment Management, and Plant Maintenance modules, Gerardo is K2 Partnering Solutions’ Consultant of the Month for February 2025. Each month, we highlight an IT consultant who exhibits exceptional performance, and Gerardo’s outstanding work with SAP truly set him apart.

His latest project for a K2 client involved conducting a comprehensive business process assessment for a migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA.

“We mapped the business processes according to the Project System module, identifying key areas where SAP S/4HANA could provide greater clarity and efficiency,” Gerardo explains. Initially, the business had planned for a greenfield migration, but the assessment helped guide the company toward a more strategic approach for their transition to S/4HANA.

What makes Gerardo stand out as a consultant is his passion for SAP and its continuous evolution. “SAP is a fascinating and constantly changing technology, especially with the incorporation of more AI features. There are always opportunities to upskill,” he says.

For Gerardo, staying on top of these advancements and solving complex business challenges is what keeps him engaged. “I enjoy being a knowledge tool, offering solutions to complex business scenarios,” he says.

Gerardo’s advice to those beginning their SAP careers is clear: “Work hard from day one, keep yourself updated on new developments—even outside your immediate area—and, most importantly, be a friendly partner to your team.”
