SAP this week laid out an ambitious roadmap at its Sapphire conference in Orlando this week, launching a volley of product enhancements and new platforms designed to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into enterprise operations and simplify cloud adoption.
The Sapphire announcements, focused heavily on its “Business AI” initiative, its generative AI copilot Joule, and a more modular SAP Business Suite, aim to provide businesses with more intelligent, interconnected, and proactive tools.
The company’s vision for AI is pervasive, with its Joule copilot at the forefront, alongside foundational AI platforms and a clear strategy to integrate AI across its entire cloud portfolio, impacting everything from core ERP processes to customer experience and spend management.

SAP is significantly upgrading Joule to extend beyond SAP’s own applications, aiming to assist users as they navigate different systems. A new “SAP Action Bar for Joule,” leveraging technology from its WalkMe acquisition and expected by Q3 2025, will study user behavior and business context to proactively provide real-time insights and recommendations. This initiative, coupled with a bidirectional integration with Microsoft 365 Copilot (expected to complete in Q3 2025), seeks to break down vendor silos and create a common AI experience.
The company launched an expanded network of “Joule Agents” at Sapphire designed to automate and orchestrate end-to-end business processes autonomously, with human oversight. These agents, fueled by SAP Business Data Cloud, will span customer experience, supply chain, spend management, finance, and human capital management. SAP highlighted new agents for tasks like quote creation, maintenance planning, and expense report validation, many slated for general availability in Q2 and Q4 2025. Partnerships with Deloitte (Zora AI) and support for Google Cloud’s Agent2Agent interoperability protocol underscore this ecosystem approach.
To enable companies to tailor AI to their specific needs, SAP introduced Joule Studio within its SAP Build solution. A new skill builder (Q3 2025) and AI agent builder (Q4 2025) will offer low-code and no-code capabilities for creating custom skills and agents for Joule. This is part of the broader “AI Foundation,” an AI operating system for all SAP Business AI, which includes a new prompt optimizer, co-designed with Not Diamond, to rapidly create effective AI prompts, aiming to drastically reduce manual engineering effort.
Beyond Joule-specific tools, SAP unveiled its AI Foundation at Sapphire as a unified system for developers to build, extend, and run custom AI solutions. This platform integrates established components like the generative AI hub with new capabilities such as the SAP Knowledge Graph connected to Datasphere (Q3 2025) and a new tabular AI service (H2 2025) for predictive insights from structured data. The goal is to accelerate AI innovation and simplify AI operations.

SAP is enhancing its Business Data Cloud with “intelligent applications” – prebuilt, composable apps designed to deliver insights and automate work across analytical and transactional workflows. The “People Intelligence” package, available in H2 2025, was highlighted, alongside plans for Core ERP Intelligence, Customer Intelligence, and more. SAP also announced plans to deliver hundreds of data products by the end of 2025, covering the entire SAP Business Suite, to provide curated and governed data for these AI-driven applications.
Alongside its AI focus, SAP detailed significant updates to its core application suite, technology platform, and partner ecosystem, aiming to provide more flexibility and power to businesses undergoing transformation.
SAP introduced new SAP Business Suite packages focused on specific lines of business like finance, supply chain, human resources, procurement, and customer experience. This modular strategy is designed to offer customers an easier entry point and a more tailored adoption of cloud solutions, with integrated AI and SAP Build capabilities for extending applications while maintaining a clean core.
SAP BTP, the foundation for these innovations, will see its services available on major hyperscaler marketplaces (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) in H2 2025. Enhancements to SAP Build include new Joule capabilities for developers (Q3 2025) and an improved lobby for managing extension projects. The SAP Integration Suite also gains AI-assisted features for API trend analysis and new integration adapters.
SAP announced several key collaborations at Sapphire. An AI co-innovation program with AWS will help partners create generative AI solutions using Amazon Bedrock and SAP BTP. The partnership with Palantir aims to facilitate seamless connectivity between Palantir Foundry and SAP Business Data Cloud. Further, collaborations with NVIDIA will bring reasoning models to Joule Agents and extend AI into robotics, while work with Google Cloud includes BigQuery integration with SAP Business Data Cloud and the Agent2Agent protocol.
SAP is embedding more AI into its transformation toolkit. SAP Signavio will feature an AI-assisted transformation advisor (Q4 2025) and enhanced process analysis. SAP LeanIX will offer AI-assisted architecture guidance (Q3 2025) and an AI agent hub. WalkMe solutions, now more deeply integrated, will provide cross-app intelligence (Q4 2025) for better user guidance and proactive recommendations.
These announcements collectively underscore SAP’s strategy to make its systems more intelligent, interconnected, and adaptable. For businesses, the focus now shifts to evaluating how these new capabilities can be incorporated to drive efficiency, foster innovation, and navigate an increasingly complex technological landscape.
