More and more companies are now seeking expert guidance on how to get the most from the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), although many are coming to it later than expected, according to senior leaders from K2 Partnering Solutions.
BTP is SAP’s unified platform for building, extending, and integrating systems. Officially launched in 2021, it evolved from earlier tools like SAP Cloud Platform and HANA Cloud Platform, with roots going back to SAP NetWeaver Cloud in 2012. SAP has actively promoted BTP for several years, but interest in it from our clients has only spiked more recently.
At K2, we’ve experienced a sharp increase in demand for SAP consulting over the past 12 months. This is driven in large part by BTP’s role in simplifying and speeding up moves to S/4HANA Cloud ahead of the December 2027 migration deadline, when mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC ends.
“BTP has been around for a while, but it’s finally gaining serious traction as more businesses migrate to S/4HANA,” says Abe Iruegas, Chief Revenue Officer at K2. “Until very recently, many companies were still tied to older SAP integration tools and hesitant to move on from that investment.”
BTP supports smoother migrations by enabling clean-core extensions and better data management. Its ability to integrate with non-SAP platforms is also fuelling demand for K2’s end-to-end SAP solutions.
“We’ve seen a surge in niche SaaS tools entering the market. With more systems in play, companies are exposing their data through multiple new channels,” explains Bob Politi, Global Head of SAP Consulting Practice at K2. “This creates major integration challenges, especially when that data needs to connect with SAP. That’s why SAP is urging clients to use BTP: it’s designed to help manage this growing complexity.”
We’re also seeing clients request support across several other high-impact areas related to BTP:
With complexity increasing and timelines tightening, many businesses are now relying on trusted partners to ensure their BTP strategies are built to last.
