We regularly recognize a K2 consultant who has received outstanding client feedback on their recent project.

This month the K2 Consultant of the Month is Vicki Johnson, a Salesforce Solution Architect. Read her interview below:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a versatile 11 times certified Salesforce Application Architect with experience in Administrator, Developer, Business Analyst, Consultant, Architect, and Project Manager roles.

With a specialization in delivering innovative Salesforce solutions to higher education institutions, I love solving complex business problems with a focus on efficiency and automation. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona.

2. Tell us a little about your most recent K2 project?

For the last four months, I have been working with a leading management consulting company as a Salesforce Solution Architect, assisting multiple higher education institutions in their digital transformation initiatives.

The company has allowed me to wear many hats. One day I’m helping clients optimize their business processes, the next I’m coding an Apex trigger, and the next I’m crafting enterprise-level architecture strategies.

The technical challenges I encounter mean that I frequently have to come up with the best way to solve a problem within budget, resource, and time constraints. The last thing I want to do is create technical debt for my clients, so I always keep the future in mind, making sure scalability is never left out of the conversation.

It’s an exciting time for me because the Salesforce offerings in higher education are in a time of extreme growth. Education Cloud continues to expand into a robust solution for engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and every type of constituent to form a truly connected campus.

3. What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people and the Salesforce platform are what I enjoy most about my job. Whether it’s my fantastic colleagues or the higher education clients, everyone has the shared desire to enhance the student experience and help students be successful. Doing that on the Salesforce platform is very rewarding.

4. Which technical development do you think will have the biggest impact on your field or the wider world of IT over the next couple of years?

I believe Salesforce’s introduction of Admissions Connect and its continuous improvement of Education Cloud will revolutionize higher education and transform what digital engagement looks like for colleges and universities.

Centralizing recruiting, admissions, student success, and advancement onto one platform facilitate a better student experience, leading to better outcomes for the entire campus. I’m excited to be part of the future of higher education technology.

5. What advice would you give to someone who is starting out as a freelance IT consultant?

Even with all of my technical abilities and experience, I find that the most important skill I bring to my clients is my ability to listen. That, along with empathy, has helped me be successful more than anything else. When people feel safe to share what they need and how I can help them, we both win.
